Ms. Sujata Stead, CEO of Cambridge Boxhill Language Evaluation (CBLA) confirmed the news and said that the UK Government has decided to streamline English proficiency examinations. This is related to the Tier 2 (General) Work Visa for nurses, doctors, dentists and midwives.

CBLA is a collaboration between Box Hill Institute and Cambridge Assessment English. Cambridge Assessment English is a part of the University of Cambridge which works as a non-profit department.

This new development in exam relaxation will assure that all the medical institutions and hospitals have access to the desired staff as early as possible. The change will be applicable to all the applications submitted from October 1, 2019.

Previously, the applicants had to give at least one language proficiency test (TOEFL or IELTS) along with OET i.e. Occupational English Test. Now the candidates with valid OET scores need not sit for any other language test.

OET is also an English language test which is a primary requirement to work in the UK health care sector. The test evaluates the language abilities (communication abilities) of the applicants who wish to work in English speaking countries.

Now the healthcare professionals such as doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives have to give just OET exam by enrolling with an appropriate healthcare regulator. The applicants can enroll with either Nursery and Midwifery Council or General Medical Council (GMC). These are two major health care boards in the UK.

Occupational English Test is accepted by many healthcare councils and boards across various international countries such as Australia, Singapore, Ukraine, Ireland, Dubai, Namibia and New Zealand. OET is conducted for professionals who have expertise in dentistry, nursing, podiatry, speech pathology, veterinary science, physiotherapy, optometry, medicine, dietetics and radiography. The visa and immigration are totally based on OET scores.

Apart from this, OET exam scores are used by many health care instructors as recruitment criteria for hiring health care experts.
